Dr. John Gelles, a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, is the director of the specialty contact lens division at The Cornea and Laser Eye Institute - Hersh Vision Group and the CLEI Center for Keratoconus in Teaneck, New Jersey.

His clinical work is dedicated exclusively to specialty contact lenses and surgical co-management. Some of the corneal conditions he focuses on are keratoconus, ectasia, post-refractive surgery complications, severe dry eye, ocular trama, and patients who have undergone intacs, corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) and corneal transplantation.

He is an adjunct clinical instructor for State University of New York College of Optometry (SUNY) and New England College of Optometry (NECO). Dr. Gelles is an executive board member of the International Keratoconus Academy, a Fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society, and an advisory board member for the Gas Permeable Lens Institute.

He utilizes the most advanced contact lenses that technology can offer, some of which are so advanced only a few practitioners are trained to fit them worldwide and are only available at the top institutes in the country; others he personally designs through specialized computer aided design programs.

Dr. Gelles is regularly invited to lecture both locally, nationally and internationally on specialty contact lenses and keratoconus.
